    I really believe we are going to see more and more of this trend where certain rooms can open to be an outdoor room depending on weather and season. The kitchen especially will be a big one being able to open it up and close off from the rest of the house during summer to not heat up the rest of the house. Another big advantage would be keeping the rest of the house from smelling as certain foods when being cooked do not give off the best odors. This house in particular though I really like how they have it open to a courtyard, I would typically design this to have a view.

      Bugs are definitely going to be enjoying the interior architecture. I'm in the US so AC is pretty much a must. When I've traveled to other countries where AC is not a thing and you rely on natural ventilation, you kind of just get used to living with bugs. Natural ventilation is usually done in the common areas of these kinds of homes. Bedrooms usually have their own zones which limits the bugs in those spaces.

    i feel like these kinds of projects are trying to fit a form of living that shapes around square houses that have been forever around us. I think it is really important to try to innovate in the way furniture adequate around these places. I visited Teshima museum that follow this aesthetic and i fell in love with it. While i was there, i drew some floor plans and furniture for it, inspired in the Japanese way of living. Normal sofas will never fit for sure, i find that using embedded spaces into the floor adds a lot of versatility to the forms of living, elevates the perception of the ceiling. Etc, etc. For sure, I'm talking from a designer perspective rather than an architect perspective. I'm just kinda mad that the architects firm tried to fit western squared designer furniture in an organic, innovative round shaped house, lots of room for new proposals. Thanks for the video!

    Man, this is awesome! The issue with porches in general is that they tend to block light from getting inside. This is a very cool two-pronged approach to overcoming that while still keeping your porch. I'm looking at buying in an area that is full of craftsman-style houses, and I just can't get behind the style. Besides just not liking how they look from the front, the living rooms seem like dark caves. I also like that your demo also leaves room for other/halfway approaches, such as removing the porch's ceiling-wall, but keeping the roof fully intact, fx if you want to have a bit more shade. Don't listen to the dummies regurgitating who would rather see a house abandoned than changed. I do agree that going into further depth about the interior of the house would be cool, but honestly who cares, you were just showing a concept. I think this is great stuff, going to check out some more of your content. Keep doing stuff like this!

    The two black lines in the patio are for drainage since you don’t really have a proper step to get into the indoor spaces like the kitchen and to the dining/living area. Also, in Mexico most new developments like Zibatá have restrictions of the usable area on the back of the plots, and also they require you to leave a side corridor for service and maintenance for the “backyard” that they also force you to have. As for the mysterious ladder on the master bedroom private patio, it’s meant to give access to the rooftop of the studio located below. According to the architects, they saw it as an opportunity to add another contemplative space, just for the owners of the house.

I do have one question - I’m thinking of pivoting to a second career into architecture but fear of going into more debt by going back for a b.Arch or m.Arch. A local college near me offers an autoCAD drafting certificate for a respectable fee. Would you advise going back for a proper degree or is the cert enough to land an entry level job at a firm? Appreciate your insight Mooch!

    • @Moochers
      @Moochers 25 дней назад

      Thanks man, glad that you are enjoying the videos! Here is the thing, architecture school is really only needed to get your license. You can't get a license without going to school. Without a license you cannot call yourself an architect but you can do everything an architect does except signing documents. My advice is to call a few firms in your area and tell have a chat with them about your interests. Ask them what software they use and ask if they would ever consider hiring someone as an entry level position who is not studying architecture. A lot of firms will hire someone in this scenario but you do have to find firms like these. AutoCAD is not a software that is as popular anymore. Revit is the leading software. You can get a job if you know Revit faster than if you know AutoCAD. You don't have to be an expert to get a job but you should know a bit more than the basics. I would only recommend school if you want to get your license or have an easier time finding a job but in my opinion, networking can get your foot in the door just as easily as having a degree. I'm not saying don't go to school, I'm just saying it's so expensive that you could try first to go a cheaper route. I hope that helps!

    • @connormcclain3241
      @connormcclain3241 25 дней назад

      @@Moochers thanks for responding man, I really appreciate it! I wasn’t aware that Revit is the leading software now. I will reach out to a few local firms and get their thoughts on what is most valuable to learn as someone without an architecture degree, that’s great advice. I would love to maybe someday become a licensed architect but since I never originally went to school for it, I would want to make sure I love it before going back to school. It’s very encouraging to hear that at least some will still hire someone like me as long as I can demonstrate actual skill and knowledge. In a future video, I would love to hear your take on some books that aspiring/practicing architects would find useful. Thanks again!
